Interests

Dr Samuel Ruiz-Tagle works in the area of Public Law, with a focus on Administrative Law, Planning Law and Urban Governance. He also teaches Administrative Law at Cambridge, having previously taught the same subject at Oxford.

CV / Biography

Samuel Ruiz-Tagle is a Research By-Fellow at Hughes Hall, and Senior Researcher in Law at the Centre for Climate Engagement, University of Cambridge. Previously, Dr Ruiz-Tagle was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Administrative Law and Governance also at Hughes Hall. Dr Ruiz-Tagle's work concentrates on planning law and administrative law, including their overlap with other fields such as local government and climate change law. His most recent projects explore the legal role of local authorities in climate change governance, the nature of planning law doctrines, and the use of automated decision-making in public administration.

Before entering academia in 2017, Samuel worked for nearly a decade in Chile. He advised domestic and international companies in the development of nationally significant infrastructure projects, and regularly appeared before administrative bodies, courts, and tribunals. In addition, he served as a legal advisor to the Ministry General Secretariat of the Presidency and acted as a consultant to government bodies in the drafting of planning laws and regulations.

Samuel completed a Doctorate in planning and administrative law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Oxford. He also has a Master of Laws from Stanford University, a Graduate Diploma in Urban Planning from the Institute of Urban Studies UC, and a Bachelor of Laws with Social Sciences from the University of Chile.
