Cambridge Vis Moot Team SuccessThe Law Faculty is delighted to welcome the announcement that the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) elected Síofra O'Leary as judge to the European Court of Human Rights in respect of Ireland last week. Dr O’Leary was elected with an absolute majority of votes cast, and will serve a term of office of nine years.

Prior to her election, Dr O’Leary was Head of Unit at the Research and Documentation Directorate of the Court of Justice in Luxembourg and before that a réferendaire at the Court, including to Judge Mancini. Before working at the Court, she was the Assistant Director of the Centre of European Legal Studies (CELS) at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Emmanuel College, followed by a stint as Visiting Fellow at University College Dublin.

Dr O'Leary is the author of two books: The Evolving Concept of Community Citizenship (Kluwer, 1996) and Employment Law at the European Court of Justice (Hart Publishing, 2001) and has published extensively in academic journals and EU law monographs on the protection of fundamental rights in the EU, EU employment law, the free movement of persons and services and EU citizenship.
