The Faculty warmly congratulates Professor Catherine Barnard on her election as a Fellow of the British Academy. Catherine joins seven other Cambridge academics who have been elected to fellowships this year.
Professor Barnard has been elected to the fellowship in recognition of her work on European Union law, especially the single market; Brexit and the UK-EU future relationship.
Catherine is Professor of European Union Law and Labour Law, and Director of the Centre for European Legal Studies (CELS). She advised the British government on its review of the balance of competences between the UK and the EU, is a senior fellow of ‘The UK in a Changing Europe’, has spoken extensively on Brexit issues, and produces the @2903cb podcast. Catherine was also awarded a Pilkington Prize for Excellence in University Teaching in 2019. She is Senior Tutor at Trinity College. Reflecting on her election, Professor Barnard said:
