CELS / Shearman Logos

CELS is pleased to announce the launch of a new Negotiation Game for law students in their second undergraduate year, which is being sponsored, organised and judged by Shearman and Sterling LLP, to be held on 4 February 2006 at the Faculty of Law.

The Negotiation Game will be an excellent opportunity for law students to develop key legal skills in an informal setting.  Twelve pairs of students will negotiate on behalf of a party or client in a fictional dispute or contract negotiation against another team.  The aim of the competition is to give students a practical insight into how best to promote and protect clients in negotiations, and to fulfil their strategic or commercial objectives.  No prior preparation is required for the Game.  The participants will be presented with the scenarios on the day and will be given time to prepare them.

The winning team in the Game will receive a total prize of £500, with £250 and £100 respectively being awarded to the second and third placed teams.  The winning team members will also be offered two-week vacation placement schemes in Shearman & Sterling's London office during the summer of 2006.
