The Faculty of Law, University of CambridgeOn 29th February Judge Dean Spielmann was the guest of CELS as part of the weekly CELS Seminar Programme to talk about "Allowing the Right Margin, The European Court of Human Rights and the National Margin of Appreciation Doctrine: Waiver or Subsidiarity of European Review?".

This was a particularly relevant topic, as it took place in the same week that David Cameron spoke in Strasbourg to the European Council of Europe, warning that the concept of human rights was being "distorted" by controversial decisions in Europe (see for example the BBC).  Judge Spielmann, Section President of the European Court of Human Rights, gave his perspective on these emotive issues.

This seminar is available to listen to below. For further information, and a transcipt, please refer to the Weekly Lunchtime Seminars page.
